The ¡°Chinese Language Corps¡±from China is about to Show up in the US

     ¡°Learn Chinese, Double your world¡±

Chinese Language Corps to be staged in ACTFL Exhibition


The 40th Annual Meeting & Exposition of the American Council on Teaching of the Foreign Language (ACTFL) will be held in Nashville, Tennessee from November 16th to 19th, 2006. Known as the most important convention for foreign language teachers in the U.S. as well as a grand occasion for all nations to promote their individual cultures and languages, each Annual Meeting & Exposition attracts numerous organizations or institutions responsible for language promotion from all over the world.

 

In order to meet the rapidly increasing demand for learning Chinese overseas, the Office of Chinese Language Council International (also known as "HANBAN"), in association with the College Board of the US; American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL); Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools of the US (CLASS) and the Chinese Language Teachers' Association of the US (CLTA) will cooperate with various domestic institutions for the resources development of Chinese language teaching and learning. Also in cooperation will be the Beijing Language and Culture University Press (BLCUP); Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP); People's Education Press (PEP); Higher Education Press(HEP); Peking University Press (PUP) and others. This "Chinese Language Corps" will be staged in the 40th ACTFL exhibition with new uniforms and a brand new appearance.

 

The Chinese Language Corps will display a uniform image, with a unified standard adopted in exhibition booth design, materials classification, directory compilation, as well as a in selection and recommendation of teaching resources, such as books, audio-visual aids, multi-media instruments, software, etc. In addition, there will be a variety of matching activities such as new book releases, press conferences, courseware demonstrations, copyright negotiations/transactions, cultural performances, etc. Special workshops will also be held by some Chinese domestic institutions on November 17th and 18th in the exhibition hall. The tentative workshop topics are as follows:

  1. Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Story-telling
  2. Integrated Solutions of Chinese Teaching in Primary & Secondary Schools in the U.S.
  3. Introduction to Standard Chinese
  4. learning strategy and Course Book Publishing
